BBM 2012 GAME CHANGES

Draft Changes

The maximum Relief Pitcher salary will be reduced from $5 million to $2.5 million, with the salary differential being reduced from $200K to $100K. If all 10 teams ranked a reliever at No. 1 on their RP draft list then that reliever's maximum salary will be $2.5 million. The No. 2 reliever's maximum salary will be $2.4 million, and so forth.

The number of Relief Pitchers drafted will increase from 5 to 6 and the number of Catchers drafted will decrease from 3 to 2. The 6th Starting Pitcher, the 6th Outfielder and the 6th Relief Pitcher drafted will be automatically assigned to the minors.

These changes were made because managers often said there were too many valuable $100,000 Relievers available after the draft and it made no sense to overpay for relievers during the draft. Many teams intentionally set their RP draft salary cap low, often resulting in only 4 Relievers drafted.

Elimination of Home Run Minimum Rule

Managers have asked us to eliminate the Home Run Minimum rule. It gave special treatment to Home Runs, it caused them to be double counted and it lacked logic in that it over rode the Game Resolution Formula. We have eliminated the Home Run Minimum Rule in an effort to make Game Resolution more realistic.

Home Field Advantage will only be used for Tie Breakers

Previously, tiebreakers were too arbitrary and home field had no advantage in the Game Resolution Formula. Under the new rule, for leagues that don't use a stadium factor, if the raw score is 0.25 or less, the home team will win. For teams that use a stadium factor, the existing tiebreaker logic remains the same.

We made these changes based on managers' request in an effort to make BBM better.

All the best,
Commissioner Richard Pagliaro
