Designating Players as Keepers

Players you wish to designate as Keepers for the following season need to be handled as follows:

Before the first round of the draft, the managers will indicate which players they want to retain (your 'Keepers'). These players will automatically be placed at the top of their draft lists for those managers. The other managers will not know who is being retained and can list them as they do now wherever they want to. (This will help to calculate the other salaries fairly.)

Once the SP first round takes place, all retained players are locked -- they cannot be removed or others added in subsequent rounds.

You can keep a player who is not on the draft lists, so long as that player played in the big leagues the previous season and has not been traded out of the league (except for All-Universe.)

Draft takes place as usual. The team with the most remaining cash in its payroll picks first in the SP draft (and as well in each subsequent round of the entire draft).  Note: all owners will start with a reduced payroll -- $40 million minus the salaries of its retained players.

During the draft round, when a manager's turn comes up, if he has a retained player slotted he automatically gets him (at the salary indicated above.) Once a manager has filled up a position, he no longer drafts in that round (so if he retains a 2B, he will only draft 1 additional 2B.). So, if you have 3 SPs and another owner only has one SP, the draft will take your 3 Keepers and you will not pick a new draftee until the fourth round; the owner that has only kept one SP will pick a new pitcher in the second round.  If you keep the maximum amount of players at that position (eg. 2 third basemen) you will only get those players in the Third Base Round of the draft and NO ONE else.

Note that the salary cap still applies. So if you keep a 2B at $3M, you will not be allowed to lower your salary cap at that position below $3.4M ($3M+10%=$3.3M+$100k for another 2B.) If your cap is lower, you will still get your retained players. If you keep two players at 2B and their total salary is less than the minimum, you will only be charged the amount of the salaries.
