| Every year the top managerial minds in fantasy baseball convene on the Baseball Manager web site to compete for the elite title that is the BBM Grand Prize championships. Thousands start the season with one noble quest: to capture the toughest championship in fantasy baseball, but only three managerial masterminds actually attain that spectacular summit that is the BBM Grand Prize:
All Grand Prize winners receive a Sharp Flat Screen TV.
Good Ole Aunt Ethel! A decade ago, DP joined Aunt Ethel's Pub - one of the longest running and most distinguished leagues in history that has been home to managers who have been around so long they can recall seeing the Green Monster grow up. "Aunt Ethel's Pub has a fantastic group of managers that have been together for a very long time," David said. "I've never met or spoken to any one of them, except by e-mail and the DC, but I feel honored that these guys keep letting me play with them year after year." Over the years, DP has collected enough BBM Championship hardware to stock his own fantasy Hall of Fame. "I still have the League Championship baseball I won in 1995. I won the Playoff Championship in 2002 and still have the pennant in my office," David said. "I also remember winning a few of those large, plastic, baseball shaped, water bottle/cups with straws sticking out the top (my wife won't let me forget those "major awards")." The GraySkys saw the light with several key Free Agent claims - including claiming Magglio Ordonez off the Free Agent list while he was disabled as well as claims of both Felix Hernandez and Shawn Chacon - that helped propel the team to the title.
BBM Magician? Gary, who typically manages between four and six teams every season, has managed at least one BBM team every season for the past 14 years. It is a streak dating back to BBM's second year of existence and the man known as "Merlin" to the Diamond Club faithful has shown superb skill in amassing 21 league championships in that stellar span of success. "Discovering BBM has definitely been the most enjoyable internet gaming experience I have ever had," Merlin said. "I would say the key to my season was drafting a very strong team, both pitching wise and hitting wise. My pitching rotation was Mark Mulder (drafted), Dontrelle Willis (drafted), Jason Marquis (drafted), Brett Myers (FA) and Jorge Sosa (FA). My offense was Todd Helton 1B (drafted), Marcus Giles 2B (drafted), David Eckstein SS (drafted), David Wright 3B (drafted), Ramon Hernandez and Yadier Molina C (drafted), Lance Berkman 1B/OF (drafted), Andruw Jones OF (drafted), Pat Burrell OF (drafted) and Geoff Jenkins OF (drafted). In addition, I was fortunate enough to put together a 15-game winning streak during the season." Showing no sympathy to opponents during that streak, Gary graciously credited his fellow managers from one of his long-time leagues - Disorientated Express - for helping to create compelling rivalries and long-running friendships throughout his BBM career. "It has been my pleasure to associate with some of BBM's finest managers, including Earthworm Jim (Bob Filkins) and Dr. Jay (Jay Wilder) Gary said, pausing to take a satisfying swallow from a bottle of Cristal in accepting his championship honor. Please join the BBM staff in congratulating our 2005 Grand Prize Champions for their outstanding achievements! BBM Commissioner Rich |
